The Thing, a fake video documentary based on reality, examines the history and present form of objects shaped by colonization. The documentary installation observes how object shaped by colonization reflect current political controversies and how those objects might impact their surroundings in the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and their colonizers.

ASEAN was formed by East Asian countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. ASEAN function a forum for these countries to deal with internal and external political questions facing the members. The initial aim of establishing this organization was to accelerate the economic growth, social progress, and cultural development of the East Asian Region. Today the ASEAN region is the world’s largest producer and exporter of tin, a tropical hardwood, palm oil, and coconut products. In all ASEAN countries, except Singapore, agriculture is still by far the most important sector in terms of employment and the countries continue to export their natural resources to former colonial powers in Europe such as Germany,Portugal, Holland and England.

The film is presented in a yoga studio. The Yoga studio is furnished by the colonized objects to which the film refers. Within the installation the audience can experience a dialog between the film and these objects.
